VEGAN. I can say it now.

It's been 10 months on this adventure/experiment, and I'm not looking back. LOVE IT. And I finally don't mind calling myself vegan, even if it leads to eye-rolling. Why the judgments against vegans? Maybe because some vegans get all preachy about it and make us all look bad?
I won't give you grief about your steak, so don't give me grief about my tofu. Is it a deal?
I'm a vegan now, and that's just the way it is. Nobody else in my life is, and we are managing quite well to live in a peaceful coexistence in a no judgement zone. All is good. :)

Food, Inc.

I rewatched this documentary last night, because it is enlightening, disturbing, amazing. It does such a great job of explaining where our food is really coming from, and the corporate influence-stranglehold really-on the food industry. It's about all foods, not just meat. Martha Stewart, who is not a vegetarian, gives it to all her friends and has her employees watch it.

I also got the participant guide, which is a book that takes you further into the topic of the industrial food industry. Can't wait to read it.

Reducing carbon pawprints

After extensive research, I've decided to switch my dog to vegan dog food. I've heard that it's difficult for cats to not eat meat, but that dogs can live happily on a plant-based diet.  My little guy will be transitioning to Nature Balance vegetarian formula. I hope he likes it!

Why am I doing this?

Initially, my plan was to cut out meat and dairy to see if it positively affected my health.  I'd been reading that a more alkaline diet can be very good for you, and since I have chronic health issues, I thought why not try it. From there I started digging around, and now have other reasons (the treatment of animals, effects on the environment, etc) that have bolstered my determination to really give this a try. So far it's been 2 months since I've pretty much been eating this way, aside from the occasional product containing eggs. Many foods are made with eggs, so I'm working on that one.

So that's it in a nutshell :)

I don't want this site to be lecturey, just kinda a log of me navigating this new path. With a bunch of recipes I try and like.
